Just a silly question - in the MPEG StreamClip screencap, the quality is at 50%... But of course the bitrate is high, so I presume that makes up for it.
This has always confused me. What matters more in StreamClip, the quality % that you set, or the bitrate? A high bitrate is as good as a high percentage quality, right? Or does one of the fields have precedence?
(Sorry for the silliness of this question! But I'm still dithering around with StreamClip and haven't figured everything out yet...)

Not a silly question! My understanding is, if you check the "limit data rate" box and type in a data rate, that this overrides the quality slider bar. MPEG Streamclip just goes with whatever bitrate (data rate) that you select. If you go with quality percentage, then it sets the data rate for you. (I find that a data rate of 65% starts to look good when encoding H.264 files. But honestly, I haven't used the quality slider in forever, except for when making MJPEG files or something like that.)

Just checking, if you video is 4:3 (fullscreen) due to video footage from movie, it cannot be made into a HD video?

Yes, it can. I really need to write tutorials for it. I've done it with Final Cut, and I suspect there's a way to do it with Avidemux and/or VirtualDubMod, but it's just a matter of finding out how. I know that Quicktime Pro is supposed to add letterbox to videos (so it would add black bars on left and right side of a video to make it widescreen) and probably other video software or encoders do the same thing. I haven't done a lot of investigation on it yet. A big issue would be how to do it while still keeping as much video quality as possible.

Or, another thing to do (if you haven't started your project yet) is to set up your project as 16:9, even though your clips are 4:3. There should (in at least VideoStudio and Final Cut) letterbox bars (pillarbox bars is what they're really called) on the right and left side, padding out the picture so it's all 16:9. Edit your video, and then export out as HD widescreen. Then you can also export out as uncompressed AVI (if it's VideoStudio) and crop the letterbox bars off in Avidemux or MPEG Streamclip. CAUTION: If you have ANY overlays (extra video layers) in VideoStudio, this will not work, as it'll squash the picture down (I'm pretty sure).

I was in the middle of rendering it in MPEG streamclip. I have done it at a higher bitrate but left it at the resolution laid out in the tutorials for making a fullscreen size, I hope it doesn't try and show up as HD, if so, will just have to do it again angela

It won't show up as HD. It needs to be 1280x720 to be HD, and you didn't choose that. (And if you did—which you did not—I would have to pan you, because the resulting video would be SQUASHED! )

How long does it take after you upload a video for the HD option to appear? I'm just guessing here, but...about a half hour maybe? I usually just assume it will take a while and forget about it until the next day, so I can't say for certain.

It can be a few minutes, or sometimes it can take overnight.

I've had it take overnight. Sometimes it can take a while.
Could you upload one of your HD files to some free hosting service, so I can take a look at it? I am quite sure you made the files correctly, but just in case there's some issue there, perhaps it can be fixed.
